Radio Question
i have a ham radio( vhf/uhf fm ) mounted in my jeep and have a hand held cb that i take on trails and on trips. there is nothing like a cb to get road reports from listening to truckers, but if you are in a strange area i have never failed to get help from a ham. with ham you can go realtivly cheap with a hand held or all out with $1000.00 plus mobile radios. it is all up to you and what you want to do with it. its fun to talk around the world while driving down the road.

Wish there was a "both" selection on the poll.
Been in and out of cb since the early 70 s.
First radio was a Midland mobile.
Iv got several sitting on a shelf in the garage.
Been thinking about putting one in the Jeep.
Just havent done it yet.
Havent had a real need for the cb yet

A CB is good for talking to the other people in the group you are wheeling with...as long as everyone has an antenna and CB that is working properly, and the group doesn't get too large or too spread out. Don't expect it to do anything else for you.
I don't have my HAM license (yet) but it's a HUGE step up from CB. Even a simple 2 meter setup (least expensive, easiest to use) will get you the ability to communicate from places that CB's could only dream of. It's worth having just for emergencies.

C.B. is good for trail radio for clubs and interstate travel info such as food, fuel and where the cops are.
ham is good for state to state or around the world. but it's more for talking to people to people about events and local happenings. chit chat stuff.
So if ya like to talk a lot get a ham. If ya just want local info with minimal talk get a C.B.

I have a CB and I'm going to test for the Ham license this weekend. Let me know if you want to know where they are testing at.
Oh, and for CB traffic, all you hear is the gravel trucks on channel 10. No one else talks!
