use the setting right next to the diode maked by the resistance symbol,, 200.
connect both leads together it sould read 0 or a very small number like .4
you want your ground as close to 0 as possible. 0 ohms
200 is the setting that will give you the best resolutuion for this.

sorry If I read this wrong and you already know..

one test I would also do (some might disagree) is remove your antenna and see if your SWR still reads the same as what you have been getting with it installed. If it does your cable is acting like the antenna and it is not you antenna causing it.

It doesn't happen often but I have found faults with coax causing problems and not with the connectors.

just another thing to do.. and it only takes a few minutes.

Actually did that by accident not realizing the antenna wasnt on and the SWR shot through the roof past the "Set" setting (being 3+) so i hope that what it should be doing

That helps verify your coax doesn't have an open... I actually replaced one not to long ago that had an open in it.. it always read a 2.7 SWR no matter what..

so I would also check the ground of the cable with it hooked up to the antenna and not the CB. check it at the CB connector. if your connection at the antenna mount is good your connector barrel should give your a low reading to ground/frame. again close to 0 is good. then connect it to the CB and disconnect it from the antenna mount and check the ground part of the firering to the ground of the jeep..

this will help verify some of the braid of the cable is still connecting to the connector.... if it ohms out with low resistance it doesn't mean you still won't replace coax...... just more step by step items... some my have other ways to do this but if your a meter that has short test leads this works good.

still thinking of what else to look at.

going to play in the mesa for a while... good luck

Ok so here what i have so far;
There is No connectivity between the antenna/stud and the Tire mount.
There is connectivity between the Antenna Screw and the stud
The mount has a 1.2 OHM resistance if i put neg on grounding cable and pos on antenna mount (if im doing this right)
Connector Barrel at CB end w/ firering connected is 1.2ohms
Ground part of firering to ground part of Antenna mount is 1.5 Ohms
Again hope im doing the reading right and thanks to all of you for your help!

Cool

Let's assume that (1) your radio is properly grounded, (2) Your antenna mount is
properly grounded and (3) your coax is good. Here are five additional items to check & recheck:
- Re-read the directions for using your SWR meter, and follow them to the letter.
- Make sure your JK is well away (50') from any buildings or over hanging trees.
- When taking your readings, make sure that:
-- You are in your JK with the motor running.
-- All of the doors/gates are closed
-- That the plastic tip is installed on the end of the antenna.

Hope this helps.

What is the resistance from your antenna mount to the frame of the Jeep?
Did you add any type of ground bounding from the tailgate to body to frame

This is my example. I ran a ground braid from the tailgate to the body, then a ground from the body to the frame. I used a 1/4-20 tap and a star washer so the bolt would bite into the metal... this gave me a very low resistance (<1 ohm) on my coax shielding no matter where I measured the ground to it. Radio side or antenna side.

here is my antenna mount.

here are the grounds

this ground runs from the frame to the body just under the tailgate hinge,

Once i moved far away from everything, Sanded down the mount, and removed the spring and quick disconnect i was able to get the SWR down to 2 for both chan 1 &40. Gunna pick up some of that braided wire and run another ground to see if that helps at all

Again thanks so much for the help everyone this was frustrating the sht out of me

Edit:So i attached two braided ground cables last night. One from tailgate to Tub (had no idea tub metal was so thick! my drill almost overheated, probally should of used a drill bit instead of a screw to make the hole ) and then another one from under the frame (used existing bolt instead of a new one, hope that works just as well) to under the tailgate hinge as posted in previous pic. going to test SWR when im outta work tonight. Wish me luck
