Default Recommend a 2M/440CM antenna

I'm looking for a fiberglass whip style antenna that will work both 2M and 440CM for a dual band Yaesu I'm going to be putting in my JK. I'd prefer something that closely matches the FireStik style antenna as I want to pair them up on my tail gate.

Any suggestions?

I am not aware of any dual band FireStik style antennas; however FireStik does offer a few 2 meter only antennas.

I mounted a Diamond NR770HNMO dual band mobile antenna

http://www.rfparts.com/diamond/nr770hnmo.html

onto an Arizona Rocky Road antenna mount

http://www.arizonarockyroad.com/antennamounts.html

and hooked it up to a Yaesu FT-7800R dual band transceiver

http://www.yaesu.com/indexVS.cfm?cmd...5&isArchived=0

and it works great. The antenna is pre-tuned (I know a lot of antennas claim this but right out of the box the SWR was never higher than 1.6:1). The only thing I don’t like about the antenna is that the coil will snag low tree branches. I plan to put some heat shrink wrap over the coils in the hope that that will not cause the antenna to snag as easily.

I wanted to go with that same antenna (Diamond NR770HNMO) but the e-ham reviews scared me off....Yours is working out well then ?? The 7800R is the rig I want to match it up with as well !!

I have had no problems. My only concern is the coil snagging a low hanging tree branch; I need to get some shrink wrap on the coil. SWR, power produced by the transceiver and signal reports have all been very satisfactory. The way I see it with a moble antenna, once the mount and coaxial cable is installed installing the antenna is a 30 second job. If it doesn't work out I'm out maybe $50.00 and a few minutes of my time.

I don't suppose they make quick disconnects for these types of antennas?

I had the Diamond NR770 on my Cherokee for 12 years. Road salt during the winter months finally got into it. Had it clamped to the crossbar on the roof rack, and never any problems with it snaging against trees. It's a screw on/off. Comes with a cap which I used when I took the XJ to a drive through car wash. You can also pull up on the antenna, and fold it over 90 degrees if you garage your vehicle. For my JK, I went with the Comet SBB-5 just to try a different brand. Like Jerrygee, I also went with the Arizona Rocky Road mount. One for the SBB-5, and another for a 48" marine grade fiberglass antenna for the Cobra 75WXST CB.
