Default Recommendations?

Howdy!
I'm looking for an all mode UHF/VHF/HF radio to put into my JK. Does anybody have any recommendations?

Thanks,

Cool All Mode Radio for Jeep

I have a Yaesu FT-857D. HF is a grounding/bonding nightmare and I stopped using it in the Jeep. If I had to do it all over
I would buy a FT-2900, 2m and be done with it.

HF is tough mobile, I use a Icom 7000, but I mostly monitor on HF and talk on UHF VHF. I use a chameleon antenna for HF but I rarely try to talk with it.

I also have the Same question. I have had my ham license for around 8 months, but still use HF in my jeep.. It has been a night mare trying to ground it. I'm ready to switch and use my license... Subscribed

I am looking at purchasing the kenwood I believe it's the 480sat. That has a detachable face plate. My goal is to run it with a ham stick.

What did you decide?

We've been looking into mobile radios for over a year, and are still undecided. If you didn't get a radio yet, where do you plan to mount it, and what are your size limitations? If size isn't an issue, then the Kenwood TS-2000 has practically everything you'd ever want.

Our biggest complain is that aside from the IC7000, nothing new has hit the market for what seems like a decade.

You are absolutely right about nothing new out there. I've been away from ham radio for just about ten years, and the ads in QST are for all the same radios!

I used to run a TS-2000 in an Impala. Great radio (esp w/1296 available), but it took up a lot of room. Nice VHF/UHF weak signal rig, however.

I ran IC-706's for a looooong time. Pretty versatile, and small for what they delivered. Because of that, the IC-7000 has my attention right now.

I'd love to see something with 222, 902 and 1296 in it, but that's a bit of a pipe dream!
