SWR help.
I believe the antenna stud mount only needs to go through a grounded bracket of any type. The only reason they installed a ground strap in the Project JK buildup was because it was placed on the swing away tire carrier which was not grounded to the vehicle. That's why a lot of posts talk about scraping the paint off of the surface of the bracket that touches the tire carrier...the paint prevents the grounding. But adding a ground strap can only help to provide a better quality ground.
To do a test, run a wire from the + of battery long enough to get to the back. Use your test light and see if your mount is grounded.

the mounting bracket that the coax attaches to should be grounded. the antenna itself must be isolated from the bracket so that it is not grounded.
check how the antenna is mounted to the bracket and make sure there is a nylon washer in the correct position to isolate the antenna.
this is the most common problem i see with people having swr and/or transmission problems.
