I would be very surprised if your off-the-charts SWR reading has anything to do with your antenna needing tuning. When an antenna is "long", you'll get lower SWR on lower channels and higher SWR on higher channels, and when it's "short", you'll have lower SWR in higher channels and vice versa.

If your SWR is that high across the boards, you've got a short or continuity issue, or a grounding issue or dirty power.

If I were you, I'd (1) visually inspect the whole antenna cable, and test for a short by using your multimeter on the connector's pin and collar, as these should be electrically isolated. Also, check continuity on both the pos/neg from end-to-end of the cable. (2) Be sure your power source is clean with good connections. Straight to the battery with a ground straight to the body (using a factory ground) is best. (3) Test the ground at the antenna mount with a good ground, your meter will show continuity from the mount to a point a few feet away on the tub. A good conductive spot on the tub is if you remove a taillight and stick the testing prod into the spot where the taillight screw was, as this is a painless spot.

Otherwise, I as other said try a different meter, or replace your antenna (unless you can test your antenna...I have no idea how one would do that).

Good luck!

I may have found the issue. Looks like my SWR meter might be bad. I did a continuity check on the Antenna connector on the SWR meter positive and negative points and it beeped at me. Meaning it has continuity and it shouldn't I don't think. I am out to find a new SWR meter and return this Shack Crap. I think frys has one.

Stay tuned...

Cool Antenna

While at Fry's, you might also want to see if they carry the Firestik "Firefly" tunable antenna. In any
radio system, in your case CB, the most important element is the antenna. Buy the best one you can afford. It will be money well spent.

Thanks for helping me out. Frys didn't have much of anything like last time I went. I just ordered a FirFly 3 foot from Amazon should be here in a couple days. Meanwhile I will install the mount and see how that work. The extra parts are much appreciated, I will return them to ya once my parts come in. Thank you very much!
