Default Install Summary

Okay,

Not as easy as I like.

From the beginnininining

First - took off the spare and the plastic cover inside the tailgate.

Cool Tech Ultra Mount opinions... High quality parts. Spacers, mount, antenna cable all fit perfectly... but DRILLING the hole for the cable to pass through the RUBBER plug in the tailgate... I couldn't help but feel a teensy weensy bit PISSED AT THE INCREDIBLE SELF HEALING QUALITIES OF RUBBER AFTER BEING WOUNDED BY A DRILL...

and

WHERE ARE MY DRILL BITS

and

FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD AND RIGHT IN THE WORLD WHY CAN'T SOMEONE JUST SELL ME A PRE-INSTALLED PLUG FOR AN EXTRA 5 BUCKS OR SOME OTHER FAIR PRICE THAT WILL SAVE ME FROM MYSELF!!!

okay - the rubber plug was a little bit of a pain in the @$$ - but it does offer a nice clean pass through for the grounding cable and antenna wire.

As for routing the antenna - easy. Under the carpet to the roll bar padding and up and over to the dash... All kinds of nooks and crannys to cover up the wire.

Next was the CB itself. Went low tech and easy on this one - wired straight to the battery. Picked the channel through the passenger side (foam filled hole behind dash side panel) Picture of coat hanger coming out after I ran it through the foam to engine bay.

Installed some weather resistant quick disconnects on the power and ground wires.

Considered the overhead CB mount mentioned on Project JK, but elected to use the Tuffy Radio Cover due to its solid base and ease of installation.

Two holes in the top for CB bracket. Two holes in the side for the Mic mount. Easy.

Bottom line - CB is an easy in/out when I don't want it vulnerable to theft. The antenna is an easy on/off when the tailgate is open. I'm satisfied.

Working on CB tuning this weekend if I can pick up a meter.

Questions?

Why didn't u tell them about all of the unholy cuss words u used when u almost dropped the hard top because u wanted to get to the roll bar zipper all by u'r lonesome seelf?

I think it is important that u r honest with them about still looking for that missing drill bit 2

and...

should you include in the cost of the install the ridiculous number of extra electrical doo dads you picked up during your three (or was it four?) trips to the store?

just curious.

I'll be doing my install this weekend, same radio and same antenna setup.

Are you going to put in a PA?

hadn't reallly thought about it yet

I threw in the CB to get ready for some more trail runs with this JK crowd

I'll probably tune the antenna this weekend.

I really bought the radio based on good experience with Uniden on my boat and I like the price from BalFart.

Post some pics - I'm always up for tweakin my setup if someone has a better idea. I'm probably going to add some chafe protection to the wire to the batt. It's a little vulnerable on the metal edge that it routes around.

Funny, good way to get your post numbers up i guess. Good info on the install, I've been doing some research, deciding which radio I'm going to install after I get home. Leaning tward the cobra 75, nice and discrete.
