What do i need to install a HAM Radio in my JKU??
Installing is similar to a CB and there are plenty of places to mount them but it all depends on the radio size. No special equipment, radio, antenna, cable, power cables & SWR is handy.
Do a search on Interference and RFI.
this will give you an idea of the work you will probably have to do with getting an HF Ground system to work with the HF side of HAM radio.
also try a search on 706MKIIG might be some good info in those links also.

Well, there are quite a few factors including what frequencies you intend to operate on, the types of antennas you plan to use, and where you are willing to mount those antennas.
An absolutely spectacular starting point is the http://www.k0bg.com/ mobile ham radio site. A purely educational site that covers the gamut of the mobile operation process.
But give me a bit more specifics on your goals and I'll help to provide some insight.

You should first decide on band you wish to use.
JK is a bit tough due to no metal roof.. but there are some options. Ill later post pictures of mine with Stealth Whip installed in front bumper. Not best solution, but easy and looking cool.
Yet due to light reflection id prefer to get custom mount at the rear. Will do it later (maybe with tire carrier)
If you plan for small antenna similar to ATAS-120 ... its more easy..

You can get what they call a "hockey puck" antenna mount for the roof of a hardtop! It will take cutting a hole in the roof and mounting with steal plate which will also have to have a ground wire coming off it to a ground on the frame! Typically a four point( corner) ground would be optimal to get the best rf signal output in all directions! Make sure your radio is mounted in a sturdy spot especially if your 4x4 ing , you won't want it coming loose and knocking someone out, or smacking a knee or shin into it because it will hurt! Get a good strong flexible antenna ie: Wilson 4' tunable fire stick is good and will take a beating! Ive also seen guys use 102" whip antennas off the bumpers with a guy wire to keep it intact( kinda like a military whip on a hummer) Stay away from monkey made type antennas they will not handle 4x4 and you will lose it easily

This is a very good site.
