I'm using a quick disconnect from CostalTech but you can get them pretty much anywhere they sell CB antennas.

That is a 2 Meter Ham rig which is illegal in the US and other countries to use unless you have a license and it is not called a "CB". All Firestik's are designed for 26.965-27.405 which is the designated frequencies for Citizens Band (CB) in the US and other places. Your going to need to look at other options such as a Diamond, Larsen or the like, that is if your licensed or don't mind operating illegally

For some reason, my SWR gets worse (higher) the higher my antenna is! When I screw my antenna to a firestic spring to help give it flex, it pushes my SWR to dangerous levels.

Have you tried tuning that antenna after putting the spring in place?

Any time that you change mountings or add a spring or QD unit, you should re-tune.

This can happen and the only way to compensate is to remove the spring or cut the antenna which with most of the new firestiks is impossible because they use a tuning screw. Try unscrewing the tip and check your readings sometimes this will help. Otherwise you might have to look at a different antenna that can be cut down if you want to use the spring.

yes, I tried to retune after adding the spring, but found it impossible. Even if I remove the tuning screw on top of my firestik antenna, the SWR is too high. Cutting the antenna would be the only solution. I guess I should have just bouht the 3' antenna since cutting a 4' is the only solution. I bought the 4' and a sprng knowing that the 4' would be a bit tall on the trail. I figured the spring would keep it safe. Waste of money
Thanks for the help and feed back guys.

Thatīs right !! My bad !! I use a VHF radio, not a CB ! In the US is illegal to use a VHF ? If not, what type of antenna would you recomend me, cause i use a 5db antenna, but itīs made of steel and i have cut up severall of them in off road trips. Is there any VHF antenna made of plastic or rubber as the firestick ??

Best regards
