Why do a CB?
You should have a cb in your rig to communicate with everyone in your group. From things like which turn to take on the trail, to warning of dangers. When caravanning you communicate things like which exit to get off on, and generally what is happening. Once you go out with a group and a cb, you will see why you need it.
I looked for a thread on this and could not find it even thou I know its out there.
But why do you need a CB? I understand the uses and how handy it can be in getting help and talking to other while on the trail but is it such a big deal to require one? I have seen off road clubs that will not let you join unless you had one.
Just wondering if it is so important do I need one? I really don't see me needing one right now.

I don't know about WY. That is what I think.

The emergency channel should still be monitored by people who will help if you are in range.
If you convince everyone to get them or buy a bunch yourself you can run with frs radios. They are more usefull out of the Jeep but in a tight group they will do fine. All the clubs I run with go CB though. I really think it is so you look cool with your antenna though
. No really it is more about range. If you lose the tail on a trail for something like a break down you can let them know for miles that they should wait as well as the other stated reasons.

I in my case I joined a 4x4 club and a cb was strongly suggested...
I had no other need for a cb so I went with the midland cb and the gate mount with a firestix antenna
It works really well and is super easy to take out in between off road trips

CB's are a lot of fun while traveling in a group. I haven't got one in the Jeep yet but plan to eventually. I do a lot of group riding on motorcycles and its nice to know what is happening up ahead. Plus as said previously, the conversations during the ride is half the fun of the trip.
