Default 08 Jk Traction Control Issues

This morning I was driving and there was black ice on the roads. I noticed that my ABS and Traction Control were not working at all. I didn’t have any error lights on the dashboard however. Any idea what is going on? If I push the ESC button the light will turn on and off but it doesn’t do anything.

If you were in control and not sliding around then nothing needed to intervene. Funny that!!!

Well that is the thing, they both should have been kicking in. The brakes just locked up with no ABS and when trying to move forward the tires just spun. I didn’t get the yellow flashing light on the dash either when the tires were spinning.

Traction control can be turned off completely with a programmer or the JSCAN app. Do you know the history on the vehicle? Could have been turned off by a previous owner.

I purchased this jeep new from the dealer in 08’. I have never used a programmer on the vehicle either. I have replaced a wheel sensor about a year ago but that was due to the ABS warning light. This was a bit of a surprise and couldn’t figure out what was going on since I had no warning lights.

If all 4 wheels have equally bad traction the system can't detect it.

A lot of the ESC and traction are controlled throughthe ABS module. Have you tried to read the system? Also get it into low range and see if it turns off SC/Traction control then go back to 2H. Also you could try disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes and reconnect. That resets the ECU as well.
IMO if my ABS and stuff did not work that would be a good thing as I am opposed to them as they make the general driving populace think they can be saved by electronics and stuff whereas driving skill or caution used to prevail prior to all those features being there.
