Default 2007 Wrangler OBD Protocol?

Quick question for the experts...

I am thinking of connecting a micro-controller to my 2007 Wrangler Unlimited OBD like these guys do here.

Anybody know what protocol was used in the 2007 Wrangler? It's my understanding that it could either be: ISO, CAN, etc. I am guessing it is CAN, but would need to know before actually building the interface...

It makes a difference when you are trying to build a cable to interface the micro-controller with the OBD port.

I may be biting off more than I can chew, but I think it would be cool to display real time engine stats, fuel consumption, etc.

Thanks!

It's CAN. I do believe that is required in all newer vehicles.

It is CAN, and it is required in vehicles after 2008. I wasn't sure about 2007...

This site also verified it, it shows the pinouts for each of the protocols, and the only pins utilized (Pins 4, 5, 6, 14 & 16) are the ones used for CAN.

Thanks!

I'm all about the Do It Yourself especially where electronics are concerned but rather than reinvent the wheel have you thought about one of these?

Most come with free software for monitoring and basic functionality. If you want the capability to reprogram, that software gets into the thousands.
