Hello!
I am new to forums so please excuse any etiquette problems or spelling mistakes! :D
4 months ago i bought my first Jeep!! (his name is Funky Winston) I'm new fixing my own car problems as I've only been driving for 2 years but with YouTube tutorials I've taught myself a couple of things.
With my 2008 jk the right break light is not working however, the night time light works. So its not a bulb issue and I'm unsure if it is a fuse issue. Does anyone have any helpful advice please?
First, welcome from across the pond. YouTube is such a great resource. I have to credit that as the tool that has been most valuable in my lifetime as far as learning how to do all sorts of things. Kudos to you as well for digging in and learning how to work on your own vehicle.
Have you physically removed the bulb from the taillight assembly? That is a dual filament bulb so just because the running light is working does not indicate the filament for the brake light is good. I'd start by removing the 2 screws that hold the assembly to the body and looking at the bulb real quick to confirm. You could even swap the bumls from passenger/driver sides to completely rule out a bulb issue.
Don't think it would be any fuse issue cuz that would affect both sides and not just one. If it's not the bulb might be looking at a wiring issue (thinking of possibilities it would be isolated to just one side).
Yeah that problem actually started out as me just replacing a blown bulb (I replaced the wrong one) but then replaced the correct bulb, found that one of my fuses had blown so I changed that. By the end of it, I had swapped and changed so many bits and bobs around and got so muddled with my lefts and my rights, I ended up with the break light that didn't work. I am thinking it might just be a wiring problem but hopefully its something I can learn to do myself.
(but on the plus side I learnt a lot and found out how to use my interior light!)
Thank you for all the help! The problem is solved! The result was a dodgy bulb. Visually the filaments were not broken, however the bottom one was shorter on one side, so I think that may have contributed. I thought what the heck, I might as well pay another £2.50 for a new bulb and if its not another bulb issue then no hard loss. With the new bulb, everything works perfectly!
