Default 2011 Infinity System Upgrade Feedback

I had the Infinity system (7 speaker) without U-connect.
The sound was pretty muffled/flat when playing the radio or satellite. The sound was great when playing through the AUX input.

Having read a lot of threads on here I was prepared to replace the entire system if necessary, but decided to upgrade in phases.

Phase 1 was replacing the head unit with a Pioneer AVH-X3700BHS. This would provide a better interface, add Bluetooth and USB. It would also provide much better control over the audio if coupled with an aftermarket amplifier.

I replaced the head unit and used the iDatalink system to establish the interface with the factory amp, steering wheel, power, etc. I also used an aftermarket satellite receiver.

The results blew me away! The factory amp and speakers sound so much better with this head unit. The system is louder and has the same fantastic sound quality with the radio, satellite, USB, etc. Since I am using the factory amp I am still limited in my ability to send power to the sound bar. Otherwise I am very happy with the results.

The install was fairly easy. The only painful part (and it was truly painful!) was soldering two data leads to the back side of the OBDB II connector wiring. There was no slack in that harness and no reasonable way to expose it.

If you have the Infinity system and are disappointed with the sound then I highly recommend replacing the head unit before you gut the entire system.

Default Pioneer Head unit

Hello bbrown626,

How are you liking your AVH-X3700BHS? I'm thinking about getting the same one. I have the basic head unit, no blue tooth , no steering controls, no amp, nothing....

I'm just looking for a better receiver with HD radio blue tooth connectivity, and DVD for my 5 year old...

Any feedback would be much appreciated.....

Thanks!

I have then 2700 model... Same unit without HD. 18 months with no issues. Works great streaming Pandora. I also installed the Sirius module. A solid inexpensive upgrade over the stock JK radio.

The only caution I would give... you mention that you don't have steering wheel controls... For some reason with this unit, I find myself using the steering wheel controls more that with the radios in my other cars. Not sure why, but it just seems easier.
