Default 2015 JK Stereo Upgrade

Hi everyone, I just joined the forum yesterday and I have to say there is great information here!

I just bought a 2015 JK Unlimited on February 5th and I am looking to upgrade the stereo. The sound is horrible, but I am not sure if I should upgrade the head unit or the speakers. The head unit in my JK is the one with xm radio and u connect. I don't know what output this unit has. Please give me your opinions. Thanks

I upgraded both and am happy with the sound now. It's easy to do yourself you can get a PAC kit that has all the wiring you need and the steering wheel controls will still work.

Well I am definitely going to use the poly fill but I am looking at changing out the speakers in the front and sound bar. Will any 6.5 speaker fit in both locations? Anyone ever used boss speakers?

The speakers are actually 6 3/4 not 1/2.
(Sound bar and dash) if you use 6 1/2 you'll have to drill new screw holes, but it'll work. I just changed out both (2015) this past week.
Assuming no alpine system, even cheap speakers are an improvement.

Thanks Andrew, I have some boss speakers on order, I plan on replacing the sound bar speakers and maybe the front dash. I already did the polly fill on the sound bar and noticed how small the drivers are on the speakers. About the size of a half dollar coin. I don't plan on going crazy with like 300 watts or anything just keep my factory head unit, and upgrade the speakers. I read somewhere that the head unit puts out 100 watts total for all 4 channels. Do you know if that's true? I bought 300 watt speakers.

I believe that's correct (100). You always want speakers to be greater than you head unit. I bought my 2015 last week (replacing my 2011). First thing I did was replace the speakers (and poly fill). The dash speakers 6 1/2 are a serious pain to get to. The tweeter (3 1//2) are easy.
Building a sub woofer tomorrow to add. My previous 2011 had the alpine system and is added a kenwood head unit, so I've got some work to get one comparable.

These fit the roll bar with a Scosche SAC656 adaptor.

I put the kickers in my roll bar (no adapter just drilled new screw holes) the dash is harder. I put 6 1/2 subs in there. Adding 2 way 3 1/2 to the dash top and in roll bar on Friday.
