Default 3.8 Alternator Death Whine

I can't find a 160 amp replacement locally. Can I put in its place a standard 140 amp alternator? I can find those cheaply everywhere with a lifetime replacement warranty. It would be 1/2 the cost of a Mopar 160 amp unit.

I'm wondering if I can just plug it in and run it, or if I have to replace the 160 with a 160? Will the MBUS have a problem with a 140? I doubt it, but I'd like to be sure. I'm running LED headlights now, so the typical power draw would be less than stock with incandescent headlights on. I really think I can get by with a 140.

Thanks!

OK, it is a 160 amp, Mopar part number 4801304AC.

Nobody local seems to carry a 160 amp replacement, unfortunately. I may just go with a Omix-ADA from Quadratec.

I just would rather get the alternator today and go ahead and install it, instead of waiting.

This is probably a little late, but from the NAPA catalog, the 140A and 160A look interchangeable.

On RockAuto the Mopar 4801304AC 160A is $274 + $55 core.

It's ok. I ordered a 160 amp from the dealership yesterday and it arrived today. 200 bucks, so it didn't hurt too badly, especially if I get another 11 years and 127k out of the new one.

I love how easy these are to swap on the JK. My JL looks like a nightmare to change one out, as it is on the other side of the belt and really crammed in there.
