Default ABS/ESC Help!!

Last weekend I went on an off road trip in the snow, half way through the day my abs and esc lights turned on and the brakes started kicking in. (I thought that couldn't happen in 4-lo? Maybe I'm wrong) but the lights stayed on the rest of the trip but the brakes didn't kick on anymore. everything drove normal but the lights were on. On my way home about an 80 mile drive the lights turned off. They have been off for the past week until today I went to a close by off road trail. (holy jim for socal people) Nothing crazy at all. there was a little bit of mud left over from the rain but not very much and almost as soon as I got on the dirt road the lights came back on, brakes turned on once but than stopped and the lights stayed on. Brett (Woods) checked out my rig on the last trip and said it might be my passenger side rear sensor. I'm hoping to make another trip on wednesday but I want to get this figured out first.

Any help is appreciated! come on guys!
Thanks
Sam

It does sound like one of your ABS sensors is damaged. You need to inspect the wheel speed sensors on all four corners as well as the wiring leading to them. There should also be fault codes in the computer, though not all OBD2 readers can read ABS codes.

Without any other information, one of the sensors or wiring got damaged on a rock or in the snow; is the most likely scenario.

Just drove the jeep to the store and the lights turned off. Could the sensor maybe have moved around while on rough ground and mess with it?

All 4 of the sensors ave separate plugs attaching them to the main harness on the JK. I would check all 4 of the plugs first to see if there is any water or corrosion in the plug and then when you plug everything back in make sure the connection are fully plugged back in. I too had to replace one of the wheel sensors on our JK. Don't worry they are inexpensive and pretty easy to swap out.

I have been experiencing the (almost) same issue. ABS & ESC light come on after start up, and go out after driving for about 100yds. Sometimes the Jeep will shudder intermittently (brakes?). In addition, the rear window defrost light (I have a soft top) in the center of the Mode control knob (air direction) comes on for about 5 min. When it does the A/C fan will not operate. When this light goes out, then the A/C fan will kick in. My 2012 JKU Sport manual trans is completely stock with the exception of 265/75/16 tires and aftermarket rims. No lift, no leveling kit. Would this be the same/similar issue that Sam is experiencing and require the same corrective action?

Check the passenger side rear wheel speed sensor. I had this same issue on my 2012 JKU. Replaced it and the problem went away. Based on other forums and some local facebook posts with the same symptoms, they have almost always been the passenger side rear speed sensor. Hope this helps.

Stupid question could someone post a picture of the passenger rear abs sensor?

I know my way around my Jeep pretty well, but not the abs stuff

I am having similar problems...
