Default Adding Satellite Radio?

Looking at adding satellite radio to my 09' Unlimited. Has anyone done this with the Sirius units, and if so where did you mount the antenna keeping in mind that the top is not magnetic and will be off during the summer?

I have read that you could mount it on the hood just before the windshield, and it has been suggested to just put it on the dash...but these seem like that the reception would be blocked to a degree. Has anyone did this, and if so where did you mount the antenna?

I just installed mine this weekend, my favorite gift from Santa. I installed the antenna on the exterior between the removable freedom panels and the windshield, directly in the middle on the metal frame. I then used a putty knife to feed the wire under the rubber windshield lining down to the driver side door. I then took the side dash panel off, bundled the excessive wiring inside and fed the remaining wire along the bottom inside of the windshield and installed the unit to the left of the center panel behind the top right of the steering wheel. It's very convenient there, unobtrusive and easy to change channels while driving (who needs the 2011 steering wheel controls! ). It works great and will not be affected at all taking the top or panels off in the summer. I'll snap some pictures when I run out for lunch later if that'll help.

O&A and Howard have made my 45 min commute so much more entertaining!

Good luck

Yup. Sat radio is the gift that just keeps on giving....this will be my third year for my aftermarket radio in the car. The Jeep came stock with it.
FYI the stock antenna is mounted on the sport bar over the front passanger side, under the 'foam' padding. I've had no issues with reception hard top or soft.

Enjoy, once you go sat you will never go back....eases the commute/daily grind!

Ok here are some pics. You can see where I mounted the antenna on the top above the windshield. I tucked the wires along the windshield rubber lining then opened the dash panel up in pic 3 to tuck the excess wire into (pops off easily). Then I tucked the wiring on the inside under the windshield between the dash and mounted where shown. I didn't use the included Sirius radio mounting bracket as it kept coming unstuck from the dash. I just bought some velcro mounting tape and it worked like a charm and has less of a footprint as well. Let me know how it works out.

I mounted mine in the stock mount position, passenger side rollbar under the padding. Works fine, no problems. I am using an aftermarket radio from Pioneer.

if i were going to add SAT radio to a stock JK I would get hold of someone's Take-ff RES unit and install it.. then get thew factory antenna and install it above the soundbar...

this way not SAT radio to steal and hidden antenna...
