Default After having gone for a swim, headlight issue (controller?)

After having gone for... a fairly serious swim (painful detail in another thread), friend's 2014 JK has what I've now discovered is a weird issue with headlights.

It seemed that the driver side headlight was out. When lights switched to on, it's out, everything else (passenger side headlight, fog lights, markers) just fine. Of course I immediately suspected blown bulb or connectivity/harness issue.

Until I discovered that if switched to parking lights only, ALL the lights come on - including BOTH headlights.

And when lights switched to off, again ALL lights are on (like DRL option?).

So this is telling me the issue must be in some controller somewhere. Anyone experienced anything similar?

Thanks.

I have not had this issue but with the all the water issues this is not a big surprise. The light switches did not get wet correct? You may start by simply unplugging all the connections and cleaning them. Do the same with the grounds just to make sure the yare dry and not rusted etc. Water damage can really result in some weird issues.

With that dunking I would sell it to a dealer as it will be issues forever. I would never ever ever go near a beach in a vehicle even when I grew up in New Zealand. Salt just kills everything. Take a look at the "Enzo in Newfoundland" on Youtube that ended up in the ocean. He is a Calgary guy and apparently the car was sent back to Ferrari in Italy and the bill to fix came to $380,000. Salt is a good electrical conductor as well.

Update - I did the battery disconnect, checked connections, nothing.

Plugged in BT OBD and took a look through the settings, and found that it was set to country Canada - and had Canada DRLs set... and we had no idea.
So, I should have stuck with my gut and looked first at the bulb. Yup, you could see the low beam filiment burned out, even. The "light coming on" I saw was the high-beam at 50% == DRLs.

BTW Sixty4x4 - Mainlander (Timaru & Geraldine) here, kia ora!

Glad you figured it out. How did it get set to Canada?

I'm assuming it was a Canadian import vehicle. Changed it to USA anyway :-)

The DRL's almost eliminated head on collisions from the onset of mandatory regulation by Canada in 1981. All they do is turn on the low beams at a reduced voltage. I would never run without them and when I travel in the USA the majority of drivers use lights from where I have travelled.

Timaru eh! Sounds like you are the pig islander. How did you ever end up in WA state? Kia Ora back to you and Nga Mihi.
