Amp draw
Anyone know off the top of their head how many amps the stock system draws from the alternator. I am talking before mods, with just the headlights, radio and other accessories running.
Trying to get a rough estimate for an AUX BOX I am building

Anyone got an estimate?
The headlights probably pull like 9-10, guessing the stereo system is around 40. The rest of the accessories are what 10-20. I'm pulling that out of my ass a little, someone have a definitive answer.

There are too many variables to venture a guess.
There is only one way to know definitively. Do you have an ammeter? If so send me a PM and I will respond with how to do it. I won't post it because I don't want to be responsible 3 years from now when someone reads it and nukes their Jeep.

I was just looking for a quick estimate yesterday while doing some calculations, plus I thought it would be beneficial to the board.
I'll check it with my fluke this weekend. Now that I am running 3 sets of forward AUX lights I really need to be careful because I am getting ready to run rock and backup lights. Not to mention an air compressor and in the future winch, etc.
I want to know that if I am going to air up at night and turn on my rock lights for visibility, 8 rock lights X 55 watts / 12 V = 36.667 amps, do I need to turn off my stereo and headlights.
Stuff like that to be safe.

At that point stereo and headlights are very negligible. The alternator can keep up with that much of a load.
Be careful with the Fluke. Mine has a 10A limit for DC Amperage. Or do you have a current clamp?
PM sent.
