Default Amp Help!

Hello! I started updating my sound system in my 08 X with base level sound system. I installed a Pioneer 10" sub pushed by a 350W Kenwood amp.... No problem at all. I also installed Polk db 651 component speakers with a lightning audio amp from a buddy. So i hook everything up and the amp gets no power... Well i come back later with the car off and the amp is powered up. So long story short, the amp is not getting power with the car on and is running with the car off. Any ideas????

Call Ghost Hunters

Seriously...that isn't good. That's a dead battery waiting to happen...as you well know. Makes me wonder if the amp remote lead is hooked up to something that is always hot and the remote relays are sensing power there when the ignition is OFF.

Do you have your remote turn-on leads connected properly? Sounds like you have them connected directly to the battery.

I installed an inline switch to my remote line, which is tied into my left side cig lighter. I can cut my amp off when I don't want it, i.e. kid in the car. Plus it only powers on when the key is on.

i unplugged the 12 v power for now. I have the remote turn on lead tapped into the pink/white wire beneath the steering wheel. This is the same place i tapped into for the other amp powering the sub in the rear and it works fine

Yeah, I would say your remote wire is hooked up incorrectly. If your other one is fine and functions correctly with no problems, I would simply run a new remote wire from that amp's remote, although if you have aftermarket head unit, it should have a blue remote wire coming off the harness, you really should use that as long as the harness was done correctly.

Yes just run some 18gauge remote turn on wire from the other amps remote turn on terminal to the other amp. If your sub amp works as intended and only receives power when the key is on it should also power up the other amp as well.

So I ran a new remote wire from the working sub amp to the amp for the speakers just like you said... And same result! So I got very frustrated and gave up on the remote wire. I installed a switch on the main power wire. Works fine now, just need to remember to switch it off
