Any one purchased a mean green HO alternator recently? needs some help here :)
I've got a mean green MG1388 alternator, which supposed to be a drop in replacement for the current alternator. But the unit I got does not have the mounting stud for the top/front bolt (the one connect to the black metal arm on the engine). I have emailed mean-green and suppled them with the picture. In the mean time I am wondering if any one here purchase one recently, and if so, does your unit looks like the one I got??
cheers.
This is how I thought it supposed to look like

After a few email exchanges with Mean Green rep, turns out the alternator is from one of the original MG1388 cavity molds and does not have the top mounting stud. After a few email exchanges with Quadratec, they agreed to swap a new one for me free of charge including all shipping cost (I actually got a quote from TNT, $388 just to ship the alternator back to U.S. )
Anyhow, the new one just arrived today, it has all proper mounting stud, so the problem is resolved
Took me an hour to install it thou
To remove the Denso Unit
- Disconnect battery negative terminal
- Remove acc drive belt
- Disconnect socket/cables from the alternator
- Undo all 4 mounting bolts
Put the MG1388 in place, put the belt back on, reconnect all sockets/cables, and don't forget the battery negative terminal
To test the new installation, on idle, turns on A/C, Radio, head lights, front and rear fog lights, measure the charge voltage from the battery terminals, barely changed from what it was on light load
