Anybody using windshield fogs?
Down low, just above the road, the fog is thinner. That's why fog lights should be placed as low as possible, where they can reach farther ahead.
Mounted high, on the windshield A beams, they wouldn't penetrate far enough, and would make the fog glare - which makes visibility worse. It's also disturbing for on coming traffic.
Also, longer wavelengths penetrate fog/haze better.
Therefore, for fog lights, yellow~orange light is better than whiter light.
(Red light penetrates even better, but our eyes' sensitivity to red is much lower than our sensitivity to yellow, so the red light advantage is lost.)
