Default Auto Dim Rear View Mirror

Has anybody added an autodim mirror to their JK.....Just got a 09 Unlimited X and the headlights can be blinding when someone is behind you. I would love to find one that would fit the existing button on the windshield. I haven't had good luck removing mirror buttons off of windshields in the past...

Actually I was thinking the same ting when we first got the JK but since we put the lift on that issue is resolved. Not to mention the tinted windows for the soft top and hard top help a bunch too.

Yeah I added one, it's a Gentex model I got on eBay with autodim/homelink/compass. Of course compass is not needed but I wanted the homelink/autodim.

It dropped right into the windshield slot and used a set screw, super easy install. I wired it down the passenger pillar, to the cig lighter that's switched (I think the left one) and it works great. I used the piece of trim to hide the wires, I just had to use a dremel to make a cutout on the headliner.

Some mounts need an adapter (I originally had this installed in a Honda) but I didn't use it on the Jeep it dropped right in as-is.

I'm running one. Paid $100 on eBay and another $50 to have it installed.

I love it! One of the 5 best mods I did to my JK.

I kept mine from my TJ Rubi and installed into the JK the day I bought it. First mod, now that I think about it. Easy install. Anyway- totally awesome. Lord knows why they won't put them in the JK from the factory.

Its hard to call this a mod.....but have you done the rear view mirror flip mod? Lots of us have rotated the rear view mirror 180 degrees, which gives you more viewable windshield area and changes the angle of car lights behind you. I have no issues with car's lights behind me, but I also have the tinted soft top windows, so YMMV. Anyway, its free to try before you drop coin on an autodim.....and if it works, you save that $$$$ for another mod!

I thought about adding one to mine with reading lamps. However, I decided against it when I realized that due to the mirror placement in relation to the dash, the reading lamps would be basically useless. I've never felt the need for an auto dimming rear view mirror...

A better solution would be a 4in. lift. Then the only headlights behind you would be the airplane landing lights when you pass the airport.

Possible concerns about leaving the top down and doors off with your Jeep in the driveway? Some random fool could open your garage door just by reaching in your Jeep.

Negative in my case- the TJ mirror (manufactured by Gentex) doesn't have the garage door feature.

Might be an issue for the folk who have that feature tho

The map lights are perfectly angled -love 'em!

And to the OP, I did not have to replace the 'button" - perfect fit.
