Default Back-Up Camera Install: Can't find reverse light trigger wire

I've got an aftermarket HU with a rear-camera option. I need to tap into the reverse light so that it send a signal to the stereo of when to switch to the camera feed.

I've looked at the tail light and found the wire to be white/tan. I don't have any white/tan on the passenger footwell, only one that's white/grey and it's not working.

I am testing with a volt meter with ground + the wire I think it reverse (white/grey isn't working).

Any help is appreciated, I'm kind of stuck

Mine is hooked up to the white/gray wire and works fine.

Direct wire it to switched power. Then you can have it on any time you want.

Yes I have two video outs for my camera, one is already on the AV input so I can switch to it anytime, but I'd also like the reverse to automatically kick it in...I guess I'll persist with the white/grey.

Thanks.

Are the reverse lights working? I managed to blow the fuse for the lights during my install, and it took me a while to notice. Mine is connected to the white/grey also. 2010 JKU

I connected to the white/gray wire at the shifter as I had the entire interior out of mine when I was installing the sound deadening material. There are several other locations where this wire can be picked up however, here are a couple of wiring diagrams for you.
