Default Backup Camera

I just bought a 09 Rubicon 4 door for my girlfriend. It is loaded with navigation aan everything else. Im not sure if this is possible but can you add a back up camera application to the existing factory unit? Being that I am lifting it and its stick, she would feel more comfortable with a back up camera if possible.

Any info is appreciated

Default Short answer... YES

Search the forum for Lockpick. It is a "plug-and-play" box that will enable a ton of features on your nav system, one of which includes backup camera support. You have to buy the camera separately. I think the cost should run anywhere from $250-350 depending on the application. I plan on getting one for my 2012 Sahara in the next few months.

Default Lockpick

Yes you can. I bought the Lockpick box and it works great. No issues in 2012 Rubicon.

Yep. I have kenwood back up camera with lock pick. I love it!!! Get it professionally installed that way problems can be handled by pros ( hopefully). Go to east coast tech and find installers in your area. In Houston is river oaks car stereo. I highly recommend them.

A local construction company with a lot of vehicles has a few new ones with back-up cameras.

The vehicles with back-up cameras have more backing up accidents than all the other ones combined.

Interesting idea.
How often do you have to clean those lenses? Mostly on rainy days?

That's intriguing. Did they figure out why?

I had a rental car over the last week that had a backup camera with the picture displayed in the rearview mirror. It can be very deceptive as to how much space you have left, the picture is distorted so if you aren't used to using it all the time, I could see how you might have an issue. Plus I think people tend to focus too much on it and forget to go slow, turn your head around etc.

However, I do plan on installing one eventually to use as a rock camera / to keep an eye on the trailer when offroading.

Most likely because the driver is not used to it. They are great for seeing what is out of sight directly behind. Relying on them for the complete back-up maneuver may not be the best idea for most folks.
