Default Best bang-for-buck basic GPS?

It seems like GPS prices are really coming down lately. I'm looking for suggestions for the best 'basic' GPS out there (by 'basic' I mean 'cheap' ). I don't drive to unfamiliar places very often by I do from time to time and a decent basic GPS would be very cool to have even for those occasional uses.

Anyone have a recommendation?

I bought a MIO c220 for 79$ NEW at Best Buy around Christmas... It takes some time getting used to, but it has 3.5 million Points of Interest, and has given me no problems yet... I'm quite happy with it. I took it to Las Vegas, Cleveland, Maryland, and St. Louis, and It has been pretty accurate.

GOOD LUCK!

Just picked up a Lowarance XOG for $199, haven't done much testing with it yet, but it appears to be a decent unit. Lot's of nice features for that price.

What about breadcrumbs? I like the GPS (Garmin C Series) I use now for your standard stuff (on the road) & I have a hand-held for hunting, but I would love something the size of the Nuvi that will trace your path offroad, but still have full-onroad functionality (and for $300 of so).

Any suggestions?

My Omnitech (Staples house brand) 4.3" has served me quite well.
$100, TTS. I get many hours of battery usage before it cries for a plug. Destinator's main weakness is its pitiful POI database, but I can create my own. (I have the entire continental US $tarbucks chain as a POI file.)

The best part is that it has been "slightly modified", so I can use Google hybrid maps of areas without available GPS maps. I can do the same thing with topo maps downloaded from the USGS. Full route tracking, waypoints, etc. (see OziExplorer)

I choose whether I want routing or traditional GPS, depending on the situation. I can also use it to watch videos, listen to music, or view ebooks.

I have a Garmin Etrex Legend Cx... its a portable (batteries and car adapter), size is a bit bigger than a cell phone, you can get a suction mount for the windshield and move it from any vehicle/boat/atv or whatever.

its upgradeable from the basic with other software and great for road trips, boating or geocaching/hiking. its easy to take off the glass and toss in the console or under the seat. and still fits in your pocket....

its saved my lost butt several times, on the road or boating the gulf of mexico AT NIGHT...

check it out... (nice little color screen and very user friendly)

You can get them for 99 cents at Wal Mart. They have this cool new thing out. It's called a MAP. Basic as it gets.
