The idea is nice but wow, that is pricey. I guess if you have a need for it or to spend that much it's all cool, but i cant justify it to myself when i have functioning (legal) headlights any more than i can justify to the better half my need to replace brand new tires.
Aren't you running Silverstars, and if so, why would you want HIDs?

i work in the parts dept at a volvo dealer and FWIW...i will never own a vehicle with HID lights unless they are on all the new vehicles and i don't have a choice.
Example...the xc9o,s80,s60 all have the GDL/hid option. A replacement light bucket for a halogen light is about $350ish. Change it to a xenon lamp and the cost per headlight goes up to about $1200. so little ol lady runs a shopping cart or something into your headlight out of warranty and you out over a grand to fix it. The bulbs themselves cost over $100. half the time the ballasts burn out and thats $500 just for the igniter/ballast. Might not be as bad for other companies but hell...thats alot of loot. You should se peoples faces when i run a warranty check on there car and find out they have GDL ( gas discharge lamps or active bi-xneon lights and tell them its going to be $1200 for a new one!! poor yuppies..lol

Have you thought about getting a light bar on your bumper and hook up some nice PIAA's or other quality offroad lights and wire them into your high beams? I have done this with several of my pick-up trucks with a bull bar and it works fantastic and add's the look to your vehicle.

Also, I am not sure if they make HIR bulbs for the Jeep as I have a set of these in my Dodge Magnum R/T AWD and they are way brighter than my PIAA extreme whites in my Dodge Ram CTD.

Forgive my ignorance but I've not really dealt w/ HID's. Are they really that much brighter, or is it just a little better but with little power draw?

Tried searching but "HID" is too few characters, so if there is already a thread just give me a link and I'll read up.

HID= "High Intensity Discharge" - they are very bright and actually are a true white bulb/light (Sun light). They are the lights you usually see that look somewhat blueish/purple on most European cars and some higher end American cars/trucks. You will see alot of knock-offs like Silverstar/Phillips/ that have a blue/purple look that try to mimic the HID bulbs. However, I found these bulbs not much better than Halogen and the life span sucks. Some HID aftermarket systems don't work as good as factory installed systems from reading about them.

The closest I have come to HID without going to a HID system has been Toshiba's HIR bulb's (have them in my Magnum R/T AWD but I don't think they have the low/high beam combo in a bulb, just seperate high & low beam thus not compatible with Jeep headlights. I find the PIAA exteme white's are decent, but not great for the money you are spending on the bulb as I have them currently in my Dodge Ram 3500 CTD.

Hope this helps out a little

Has anyone tried the Sylvania bulbs offered from Quadratec? I think they are $30 each and the fog ligh is $25 each, for the bulbs.

I am wondering if they are a decent improvement for less than $100 all together.

Except it's not a projector so you won't have the ugly silver surroundings (unless that's your thing)

Because Silverstars are the biggest disappointment in the book IMO. They'll run you about $50 for a pair and only provide a slight improvement over stock. Add to that the fact they'll burn out in under a year usually. Compare that to HID kits you can get from eBay (bought a couple for different cars, never was disappointed) for about $100 and you have your answer as to why you'd want HIDs

Lastly, I don't know where you guys get these $700 prices for a single unit (Xe7) because most sites list them for $700 A KIT. Anyways, I still consider this amount to be fairly high (although it is quality construction) even though I am an HID nut.
