here's another option:Cool Tech JK Switch mount

It allows you to mount switches in the wasted space in the center console near the floor.

Not as cool as using the existing switch plate, but at least gives you an option.

thanks!

Hey, I was thinking the same thing.. I asked my mods guy at the dealership to order me a couple of switches to go in place of the dummies so i could wire up lights etc.
Haven't heard back yet.. Maybe he can't get them or they don't make/have them..

On another note.. What about trying to get the "Deluxe Version" switch set, that has all the switches, and may be able to wire up the 1st 2 to whatever??

Probably won't work as all the switches are most likely momentary contact type with the exception of the hazards. The switches are built into the circuit board, and with the canbus system de-integrating them for use on other electrical items will be impossible. But then I could be totally wrong. Anybody care to jump in here?

What is the actual mounting depth than can be used? I can try to find a switch that'll work.

It's less than 1/4", if you look at the pics posted above you can see the blank covers removed from the housing, as well as the circuit board that was behind the blanks. I hate what DC did here, makes it tough for modding

Just from memory I don't think it was more than 1/2". I still would like to know if I need that side of the printed circuit board If I don't have those options? I am in a rented PT Cruiser right now that has the exact same switch console. It however only has Hazards and Pass Airbag info. So it has four blank spots. These part are all the same probably and they only activate what they need. Also momentary switches may be useful if you could get them to work for stuff like garage doors or the like.

I guess a total disassemble is in order here, and you're right, the momentary action would be good for openers. The extra switches would still bear the intended logo on them though if another stock panel with the extra switches was used. A simple latch circuit could turn a momentary switch into a on/off type as well. Push once for on, push again for off.

Lots of room to the left of the stearing wheel for buttons/switches.
