Brake Controller stop light wire
Hello, I am installing a brake controller in my 2012 JKU for a 7 pin wiring harness. Has anyone done this and knows exactly which wire to connect the stop light wire coming from the brake controller? Pics would be great! Thanks!
I am currently doing the same. on a 2009. It is the last thing I have to do for the 7 pin and brake controller. I have read two conflicting ways to do it.
1) The first was that you cannot splice into the wire harness next to the brake pedal in that this only carries signals to the vehicle's computer, which then send a signal to relay at the rear of the vehicle. The relay then provides the 12v somewhere at the rear of the vehicle. In this instance it was recommended that you run a wire from the brake controller back to the brake light wire at the rear of the vehicle and hook in back there.
2) The second was that you splice into the white wire with the tan stripe.
The first of these will definitely work, but the second looks convenient.

The third high mounted brake light is hard wired through one set of contacts in the brake pedal switch.
It simply sends 12v from the battery to the light over the white/tan-striped wire.
That's why option 2, above will work.
Thanks for the info guys! Man, it is hard to get under the dash and take a look! I think i've found the white wire w tan line coming off the brake pedal. Looks like its bundled in with a few other wires. Looks like a pretty small wire. I will hae to get the right connector to tap into such a small wire.
It's true the brake pedal switch provides a signal to the PCM, which in turn sends a signal to the TIPM to activate the brake lights.

This works on a 2012, FYI. If you stick a small screwdriver in the back of that plug, you can pry the plug out; there is no release tab or anything, just a lot of firm tension. Then pull the harness down to a workable level and use a Posi-Tap (red, for 18-22 gauge wire) and you're done in 30 seconds. Worked like a charm. Thanks guys.
