Default butt connectors?

I recently used heavy duty butt connectors in the engine compartment should I have used weatherproof butt connectors?

Personally I would solder and use waterproof heat shrink tubing (it has a gel inside that forms a watertight seal when heated). They also make a butt connector with the same gel.

Butt connectors? Are those like double headed dildos or something?

The Posi locks look good for a field repair (May get a few for my trail kit) but I still solder and heat shrink my splices. Maybe it's my aviation background but I feel it makes a longer lasting weather proof repair.
