Default can you splice 2 different guage wires?

I'm wiring KC 5x7 fog lights and I need to add wire from the lights to the relay. The wire running from the 55 watt lights looks like 18 but I have a roll of 16. Will it cause a problem to splice 16 from the relay to the 18 going to the lights?

No problem as long as the smallest wire can handle whatever you are powering.

You're absolutely safe using the 16ga. instead of the 18ga. You can always safely use a larger wire in place of a smaller. The inverse is not true, of course.

Default Thanks for the info

I asked earlier if anyone knew what guage wire came with the KC wirung harness for these lights, but did not get a reply, so I'm only guessing by comparing the 16 to what came in the harness that it's 18. But if I cn run larger wire from the relay into the smaller wire going to the lights safely, then I will go ahead a splice the two together. Thanks again
