A cheap way to augment the dome light
Like just about every JK owner, I find the stock dome lights inadequate.
I had, based on a post in this forum, replaced the stock bulbs with Putco 280003W LED light sticks. While they are whiter, I can't say they are putting out more lumens than the stock bulbs. So....
today I glued a short LED light strip to the sound bar and soldered the connecting wires to the existing dome circuits so that they come on both when the door is opened and when I punch the driver-side dome light button. At $6 for the strip of 9 LEDs, it was a pretty cheap way to get more light shining where it is needed. Obviously, one can buy these strips in varying lengths, but I thought I'd start with something that didn't stand out too much.
In the left of the picture below, it shows the location of the solder points for the black ground wire and the red hot wire. One could choose a different hot point if all you wanted was to have the LEDs light when the door is opened. The right shows where i mounted the LED strip.
BTW, you need a small torx bit to remove the dome light circuit board.
