Default Cruise Control Question

Anyone install cruise after they purchased? It was the only option I really wanted that I could not find locally. I know I can buy the kit for $211.50 justforjeeps.com/speedcontrol4.html. Just wondering how hard the install is. Just plug and play or should I get the dealer to do it. Really hate to leave any of my vehicles with anyone else as I am very mechanicall inclined.

Just looking for input from anyone who has done it or done homework on it. TIA!

Brian

I am curious if it is plug-n-play or not. Since the control switches communicate to the computer using the CANbus, I wouldn't think it will work until the computer is told that cruise control is installed. I would think that will require the use of the scan tool.

Let us know what you find out!

I have done it and it's easy. Good pictorial instructions with it. The biggest problem I had was unlatching the airbag, ended up useing a scribe with a 90 degree bend in the end. Contrary to what I have been reading, like the 7 pin trailer light wiring harness, you do not need a computer flash, that is dealer hype to get you in for a $50.00-$75.00 flash and log your changes in their data base. It will work great without any reflash.

I know where it goes, I am installing it and need to know where the tabs are in order to remove the airbag and cover on the steering wheel. The directions from DC suck!

So are you saying that you installed the 7 pin trailer light wiring harness WITH OUT a computer flash and it works?

Default easy fix

i have installed cruise controll on my jeep a few weeks ago the most easy way is to get an exacto knife and cut the plastic the kit comes with a new plastic with the hole in it for the cruise controll lever just cut the plastic in a few parts be careful and pull it off then you can easly pull the clips for the airbag nothing to it i had running perfect in 30 mins

That's funny because that is exactly what I ended up doing. Made the install a hell of a lot easier. Why they couldn't just suggest that in the horrible directions is beyond me.

Exclamation watch out

Please be careful The plastic peice behind the steering wheel can come off then you are in ribbon cable hell. I figured oh this should be easy to roll up well NO. Now I have to go to the dealer and get the damn thing fixed. This sucks other then that popping off it would have probably been easy oh well off to the dealer tomorrow they should love this one.
