Cylinder Misfire
I got a code saying the number 3 cylinder is misfiring. I'm sure it has nothing to do with it but it did start right after filling up the tank. Been running lower octane for 6 years and never had a problem. It had just under 80k miles so I'm wondering if the plug is bad. I ran gas treatment through it and no change. I've got an appointment to have it checked in a few weeks at a dealership but was wondering if anyone has a suggestion beforehand. I have changed plugs and wires on older cars but haven't done anything like that on the 2014 model.
On the 3.6L it's pretty easy to check/change the plugs on the passenger side. The driver's side is a whole nother story as the upper intake has to come off to access. At 80k miles you are right up against changing plugs as just a maintenance item, but I tend to think that is not the source of your misfire. Not sure what your low octane is in Indiana. I've been running 87 in my '13 since brand new and haven't ever had an issue with it, and I'm rolling 110k miles now. I think I'd pull plugs in cylinder 1 (front passenger) and 3 (middle passenger) to compare since easy.
In these situations, it's really handy to have some tool that can read realtime data. The Jscan app + BT dongle is a pretty powerful tool to have for ~$45 total cost between the app license and the price of a BT dongle. It's a great programmer, code scanner, and live data monitor. It would be interesting to see what cylinders 1 and 5 are doing relative to 3. I can't recall, but I think I was told before that the code is only triggered if the cylinder is misfiring more than 2% of the time.
