Default Dash cams - thoughts experinces recomendations?

So this is something I have wanted to add to my vehicles for a while but after my wife got ran off the road by some crazed person (inches away from potentially being a murder) the other day its become a priority. Luckily my wife is a decent defensive driver and the stage 4 brake upgrade on the BMW has proven now to be worth every penny.

Though GoPros and such are very nice I am looking for a dedicated dashcam that is auto powered when the car is on auto starts recording and will loop record. (I have not looked at gopros or the like if they are capable of doing this I suppose that would be a great option let me know if i missed that). I want something of quality though $150 per unit would be a target range probably $200 max.

Just wondering if anyone has had an experience with any units or has any recommendations

Check with Panasonic dash cams, it's what we put in the police cars
