Default Dead battery

Driving to work this morning at 3 am and my battery light dinged and the icon came on but kept driving, five minutes later list the center stack lights and radio as well and the ESP light as sell as abs and the seat belt lights too. My battery is stock and I purchased my jk in januuary of 07 so it's almost 5 years old. Are these things I stated above the signs that my jk's computer is letting me know "dude, change the battery!" my wifes on the way to boost me. What's a good replacement battery? Thanx gents if you don't hear from me I froze on the side of the road on I80 east in the poconos of PA.

I just replaced mine last week it was 4 years old and I bought mine on Dec 1/06. they say some people on here are only getting 2-3 yrs on the stock battery's. The stockers only have 600 ccr amperage so any thing with a better ccr than 600 will do ! I ended up goin with an Optima yellow top, I guess will see how thats going to turn out. good luck!

Well I didn't freeze but a delivery truck nailed my wifes mirror and ripped it off and hit my 35" bfg mt's slamming them into my knees and thighs and pushing me into the guard rail as I tried to remove my battery cause it would not take the jump start. I'm ok just a lilttle shaken up and pissed cause he didn't even stop. My knees and thighs are sore (insert joke here) but gotta figure out if the battery was too far gone to take a jump start. Any suggestions before I have it towed? I'm going back to pull the battery and have it tested and go from there.

Sears Die-hard Platinum. Good luck getting un-stranded. You're definitely due for a new battery.

Glad you're alright.....that had to be pretty scary. I think if that had happened to me, after I shook off the startledness, I would have hoped in my wife's car and chased the SOB down and called the police on the cell phone as I was chasing him down.

Yes optimas are expensive so I might go with a sears die hard. When I went back to pull the battery I was frigging pooping in my pants I was so scared ! My front driver side tire that was hit is flat too, hopefully it just unseated from the rim. My 35" spare is at home due to it not fitting on the stock tire carrier with the stock bumper. Boy, as I was on the side of the road I was realizing just how un-prepared i was. I didn't have a ratchet to unscrew the battery clamp, didn't have proper lighting to help me see in the dark, no spare tire, and no portable air compressor to re-fill the tire. I've gotta re-think alot of things since my Xmas list to my wife was a superchips and poison spyder rocker skins and the center console pad as well as the bolt on door arm rest.

You'll be happy with the Die-Hard Platinum. It's a better battery than the Optima both on specifications and quality. Many long time Optima users on this forum will confirm.

Read through this thread, I posted a lot of info about the Optimas and Die-hard Platinums in there.
https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/show...ry-crapped-out

What I found is the die-hard Platinum uses the same Gel Cell (AGM) technology as the Optimas, it out performs the Optima's in all specifications, It cost less, seems to have better quality, and a better warranty. It almost seems unfair where it's a win/win/win/win choice......unless you prefer the color yellow over grey.

I am actually going to pick up a Die Hard today.

Here is a really silly question.... I have heard horror stories about people simply trying to replace a battery on these computer driven vehicles... had to get towed, wouldn't start, needs a computer reset, etc...

Is this just a simple matter of taking out the old one and popping in the new one withthe JK?
Is there any special order to remove / install? No computer reset?
I know it is ridiculous to have to ask this stuff, but with these PC driven machines, ya never know.

Have to disagree on the Die Hard Platinum being a better choice. I've ran the Die Hard Platinum's in three different vehicles and each time the battery failed well before the warranty period ended (within 18-24 months). Yeah it's nice to get a free replacment but not at the cost of being stranded. Went with a Optima Yellow Top in one of our JK's and this thing has been under some serious conditions and hasnt shown any signs of weakening. Our other JK is showing signs of the factory battery dying and I just ordered another Optima Yellow top from Quadratec this morning.... $159 delivered.... cant beat that!
