Here is a really silly question.... I have heard horror stories about people simply trying to replace a battery on these computer driven vehicles... had to get towed, wouldn't start, needs a computer reset, etc...

Is this just a simple matter of taking out the old one and popping in the new one withthe JK?
Is there any special order to remove / install? No computer reset?
I know it is ridiculous to have to ask this stuff, but with these PC driven machines, ya never know.
I didn't have to do anything special to replace mine. My only recommendation would be, to make sure the key is turned off and nothing electrical is running before disconnecting the original battery. This probably sounds like common sense, but given what you described....I could see that as the only possible cause of something like that happening. All this computer driven stuff goes through a turn off sequence....just like your PC. If you pull the plug on your PC while it is running, then you're risking causing things to get messed up....so instead you use the Windows "Shut down computer" instead and then pull the plug. So it's the same with the vehicle. When you turn the vehicle off, all these computer devices will initiate a shut down sequence and go into a sleep mode of operation, where it is then safe to pull the power....in this case...the battery.

Yeah it's nice to get a free replacment but not at the cost of being stranded. Went with a Optima Yellow Top in one of our JK's and this thing has been under some serious conditions and hasnt shown any signs of weakening. Our other JK is showing signs of the factory battery dying and I just ordered another Optima Yellow top from Quadratec this morning.... $159 delivered.... cant beat that!
Can you point us to the Quadratec web page that you shop at? My screen shows $189.99 + $25.99 shipping.

this sthread was started by me on my i-phone this morning using the new i-phone app and i couldnt use my current user name so i created rezerectd.....

i had to buy the yellowtop optima since there was no sears nearby and honestly wanted the optima anyways since i've heard good things and of course needed it now so i payed $206 with tax..installed it and started right up and had to throw the spare on since there was a huge gash i did not see this morning in the dark....
took it to my local advance auto parts and had them check my charging system and the computer states that there is a 0.45 amp draw which says i should check starter circuit for loose, worn or corroded wiring..

the tech guy at advance says that could cause starting problems in the winter/ cold days and last year i had some where i would turn the key and nothing then after a second or third try it would start....

what is being done about these starter issues?
anyone change the wires on the starters?
if so, recommendations?
any other suggestions?

thanx for the replies guys and the sympathy

i need some input on this starter stuff....

Thanks. Did that and all went well. Even my radio presets stayed. Only the clock had to be reset.

If while you are driving down the road the batt light comes on it doesn't mean your batt is bad, it means that the alternator has quit charging for some reason. After 5 years your batt could be getting weak but that won't turn the light on.
