Distortion from Pioneer radio on stock infinity speakers - any ideas?
I just installed my Pioneer AVIC-Z1 head unit into my Jeep. My Jeep has the stock infinity system. I used a Metra CHTO-013 canbus adapter. Wired everything up and it all works great except when I turn the volume up to about medium loudness, the speakers get really distorted.
The stock radio sounded MUCH better than this and was able to go MUCH louder w/o any distortion.
There is a gain adjustment on the Metra and I played with it but it only helped the volume, not the distortion.
Has anyone run into this? Any suggestions?

I just replaced the Metra adapter and still have the same problem.
Also, I bench tested the Pioneer's RCAs on different speakers and it sounded great.
Any ideas?

I just spoke with a tech from Metra. He said the Pioneer RCA outputs are 4 volts and the Metra adapter can't handle anything > 3v. He said I need a line out adapter and use the speaker-outs instead of RCA.
Am I being fed a line here? Because I know several other people on the forums have done a similar install using the CHTO-013..... I haven't seen this exact Pioneer installed, but still they have been similar types of radios.

I stopped trusting "Metra Advice" some time ago. I see you did try wiring it straight from the Deck to the speakers. Good trouble shooting!
Did you buy the PAC (model C2R-CHY4) ?
Did you remove or bypass the stock infinity amplifier?

It's driving me nuts because there's another thread where someone installed a Kenwood nav unit (dnx9140) using the Metra and had no issues.

The guy Who helps me (okay... he does most of it for me) just went in to a meeting. If I remember when I talk to him next I'll ask him. That may be later tonight though.
