Default DIY source box platform

Greetings,

So I'm in the process of building my DIY sPOD. Im still working on the wiring and I haven't had time to really concentrate on finishing that aspect of it just yet. I have however finished my source box platform and wanted to share. I'm anal in the sense that I want all my basics done before moving to the next faze of a project. In this case I wanted my source (sPOD-style box) totally finished before moving on to the wiring.

I chose this area because it offers the most space and is a dead area. By dead I mean there are no service-type items that would mean moving the source box really ever.

***stand by…the computer died while uploading the pics***

Bought a aluminum project box enclosure on ebay for $45. Very nice machined box. Measures 12x8x2.5"

Also purchased 1/8"x3/4" steel bar for the bracket. Big hammer and a vise bends steel well and stays rigid.

Measured and installed the brackets to use the existing factory bolt holes on the fender. Drilled holes for attaching hardware and enclosure access. Primed and painted and ready to install.

The platform is held by the two fender bolts. The bottom rests on the plastic mould for the AC lines. I attached a small square of 3M tape on the bottom just for posterity. The fender bolts hold the platform very rigid without vibes. Also allows for quick removal for dealership visits if necessary down the line.

With the cover on it clears the hood easily. There is also plenty of space around all other nearby components. This part completed leaves a nice space for 12x8x2.5" worth of electrical madness!

BTW…the box is not marketed as waterproof. I would consider it to be easily splash proof as it screws together extremely tight. I will use waterproof grommets and gasket the edges when I finish. This should prevent any water issues I would have.

While not complete…this is the method to the electronics. A baseplate made from a $5 Home Depot plastic pegboard. Blue Seas Fuse Panel, relays, circuit breaker, etc. When completed I plan on having a built-in ammeter / shunt with a small LED AMP read-out in the cabin. I like the idea of seeing how many amps my accessories draw. When completed with all that I will post up the diagrams and what I used.

Sweet project. I have been looking at doing this myself. I like this plan much better than most. Thanks.

Very nice layout. I like the idea placement under the hood.

Nice set up! What did you search for on eBay to find this box? Do you know who makes it?

Edit: project box enclosure, didn't see it!

Do you have a wiring diagram of how you wired everything?
