double din head unit question
like they said above aftermarket radios have a standard size (ISO7736) more often known as DIN which is 7" wide by 2" tall and double DIN is 7" wide by 4" tall. Very rarely are factory car radios this size. The opening in the jeep is kind of frustrating if you plan to install an aftermarket unit but it is kinda cool if you have the factory unit like a mygig because it has a full size screen and then has big buttons on the side and full size volume knob etc.
Anyway to use an aftermarket head unit in a JK it is more ez and clean to install than many vehicles because there are just two spacers that go on either side of the unit instead of some cars that have a bunch of plastic filling in stereo area that may not match the car.
here is a double DIN I had in my JK. The spacers on the sides are not that noticeable in my opinion.

On most of the 207-2011 jeeps there is a metal bracket inside the dash that you can cut out to fit a double din radio, I know the 2012 is an easy slide in double din as long as you have the right dash kit. You can find it on bestkits.com.
