Default Double Din Options

I have seen some Double Din GPS/NAV 7" screen units on Ebay for really cheap. Maybe $200-300 bucks. Anyone have any experience with these units? They are certainly affordable, but will they work in a JK? Any help would be appreciated...any pics of applications? Installation issues, wiring harness equirements, etc?

Thanks in advance!!

I do audio install everyday for work and in my experience I would never recommend any double dins from eBay and here is why:

1. Most of the time they are oversized and you have to cut the dash to get them in.

2. They might say they have nav but then come with maps that are out dated and can not be upgraded.

3. Most of the ones I have installed have been missing pieces.

4. Speaker outputs break during shipping (these are fragile units and they are getting bumped and banged around)

5. No warranty!!

Go to your local audio shop and ask for a deal, people do it all the time hear and we don't wanna turn away good customers. And you get warranty!! People hate paying for it but if it fails in 8 months to a year you get a new one!

But that's just my thoughts

Another thing to be very careful about e-bay is that several stereos are locked to the original vehicle's VIN and you need the original owner to request the dealer to unlock it otherwise you have just a brick. There are a few threads here about this issue.

I just updated my maps two weeks ago.

I have a Kenwood DDX-419. Great unit so far, I dont have nav, but its an option.

They are only 300-400. Even at audio shops. Check it out.

If you want plug and play, look for a used Mygig unit (make sure you get the high speed bus). Units are available with or without navigation, but are usually fairly expensive.

If you want a cheaper option, check out the AVH-P2400BT). No nav, but a great unit (I have it) and in your price range.

I highly recommend my Kenwood DNX series unit. iPod, Nav, DVD, Aux input, and Nav is update-able.

Thanks for the info. It's always tempting to save a few bucks but I guess it only costs a little more to go first class.....You just can't stay as long.
