Default easy ignition based auxillary wiring option

I hardwired my GPS using info gathered here in the forum...but sorta with a little twist. I tapped the #8 open fuse slot for ignition based power to an under steering wheel auxillary power socket. Its nothing earth shattering...but atleast I didnt have to pull apart the center console to wire.

Bought the wire tap, auxillary power socket and wire at autozone

Loaded the tap with (2) 10amp fuses

Plugged into #8 (heated seats) open slot in the fuse box and drilled a small hole to get wire out of box.

Ran wire around to drivers side firewall...and pocked thru the large (softly covered) access hole...its basically covered with tape. The pic isnt clear but you can see the red wire...you can reach the hole with your left hand. I poked a pen thru and threaded the wire in

I then then screwed the auxillary socket into the small metal bracket and connected the hot from the fuse to the red aux wire. Note the black tape covered access hole above. The red is the hot and the black wire running through is for my Warn lights...LOVE the Warn lights!

There is an easy ground source just inches below the mounting location. Connect the black from the aux plug to the ground mount.

I then mounted my GPS and ran the wires down the side of the dash.

I now have an easy access/hidden ignition based power source. I added a Y auxillary adapter so after connecting my GPS, I still have an open slot. Very easy.

Looks good. How much wire does it come with or did you splice some together. I guess you could put it pretty much anywhere you wanted to.

Just comes pig-tailed...you need to supply the wire.

You could just as easily run it to the armrest console between the seats for additional ignition based power.

I want to do something similar to this, but it looks like there is something in the m8 slot. I don't have heated seats either.
