electrical problems, short?
ok guys, i got a WEIRD problem.
for the past 2 months my seatbelt indicator would go off at random times at random intervals very sporadically, but usually when i slowed down to make a turn...
fast forward to today, after 5 minutes of driving, every time i press the brakes, the light comes on. if i hold the brakes, it stays on. then everytime i put on my turn signal, it turns on. turn on my lights, it turns on. raise the ebrake, it turns on. then my signals started rapidly flickering when i signaled, like the bulb was out, AND the seatbelt light still turned on...
i go back out this morning to drive to the bank, nothing weird, jeep runs completely normal.
its under warranty and im taking it in tommorow, but does anyone have any idea what this is? a short somewhere?

there is a very short little green guy running loose inside some of our Jeeps, I think they used to be called gremlins..........
seriously though, warentees are great. I just had a new steering wheel put on cuz mine was starting to peel.

No idea what it is. The dealer will probably say the same thing.
Next time it happens, disconnect the battery negative terminal for a few minutes.
This seems to clear up a lot of strange behaviors on the JK.

Yes, it's not a can bus issue and resetting the module does not solve the problem, it does come back. Front turn signals work fine so do headlights, when it acts up rear turn signals, break lights, parking lights and reverse lights do NOT work but all front do, which says the multi position switch and IPC and CAN bus are all fine. It's either the TIPM or a wiring issue from the TIPM. I'm going to instrument the wires coming off my TIPM to the rear at the TPIM and see what happens when it acts up, but I was hoping for an easier answer. I'll spend the $200 on the TIPM if I have to but before I do I want to make sure that is what it is so I was hoping I could get an answer as to what came of this one so I didn't have to spend all the time this weekend troubleshooting mine.
Biggest problem is it doesn't act up all the time so it's hard to diagnose. The second biggest issue is when it does act up I've got NO break lights, no turn signals and no marker lights in the rear.
It's 1 of three things
1) TIPM
2) Connector somewhere
3) common ground loose somewhere
2 and 3 are less likely since it's not that random. When it starts happening it stays for a while. Then you can park and sometimes it's still doing it when you come back later, other times it is not, if it was a bad connection it would be more related to bumps in the road and railroad tracks and such.

To add to the above, I suppose it is possible that the brake switch wire is shorted out somewhere and that when the module detects a short it kills whatever drives the rear lights. Which would make some sense. This will be my first step. I just wish I knew more about the logic inside the module
