I知 just wondering if anyone has any experience with replacing the main wiringharness in a 2009 jk? I have searched online and haven稚 found much info on this project.
I found a jeep 2009 jk 2-door manual transmission, with salvage title, that had a fire right on top of the engine, but only burned up the main wiring harness and melted the intake cover.
Looks like a simple fix, but I知 just wondering if there could be other issues that I知 overlooking. Would the computer system be damaged from the fire (I知 not sure where the computer is located), will it be throwing codes constantly once fixed?
I致e also read these fires are somewhat common in these year models. Does anyone know what the cause could be, could this thing catch on fire again after i fix it?
Thank you for any advice and recommendations you might have.
Hopefully you got it cheap enough as there are some major harnesses there that are burnt. The main ones are best purchased as new ones c/w plugs. That main plug above the brake booster looks damaged on both sides so not sure if even using a new harness from the TIPM will be good enough. Be prepared to fork out at least $600 for harnesses. Doubt if the ECU is damaged as it uses 5V signals. If wires shorted the fuse is most likely gone. Burnt cars are really difficult to completely fix.

Thank you so much for the quick reply.
I haven稚 bought it yet, just looking into everythi mg to see how mich it will all cost.
the guy wants $8000 for it, 110,000 miles. If i could be in it for under $10,000 i will probably buy. I知 just wanting it for an offroad jeep mainly, not gonna be daily driver or anything.
i just don稚 want to mess with it if its gonna be little problems constantly.
sorry, I知 not familiar with what TIPM is, could you clarify please?
My next question is, where would be the best place to order the harnesses? I found what i think is a complete set on mopar, would they be a good source or should I try to order one from a jeep dealer, or somewhere else?
anyone replaced a complete engine harness system? Difficult job or not bad?
That Jeep is write off value whch IMO would be in the $4000 range. Relistically that Jeep in really good condition would only sell for around $14k (could ask all you want) and even a dismantling yard would only pay $2-3k for it. So he is ahead by selling it for somewhere in the $4k range. Then you are free to buy harnesses, ECU if you have to and looks like some damaged stuff on the engine harness too. Then you don't know what shape the engine is in. If you have the cash make them an offer, leave your phone number and walk away. It is not a Rubicon so there is no salvage value there anyway.
Thanks again for your advice, I知 new at this so I really appreciate you.
The jeep is just a base trim level, but looks to have been taken care of and has basically all the aftermarket parts I was planning to eventually put on one anyway (other than possibly regearing for offroading) so that should save me thousands.
I might go today and offer the guy a lot less than he痴 asking and go from there.
Here are some more pics to get an idea of what I知 looking at
