This is my first post here, and I'm excited to tap into the wealth of knowledge and experience this community offers.
I'm in the midst of upgrading the audio system in my Jeep Wrangler JK 2017 and would greatly appreciate any guidance or suggestions to enhance my current plan. Here’s what I'm working with and my proposed setup:
P.S: 1 know this is a JL forum, but this thread is like general about audio system.
Current Factory Setup:
Head Unit: Carobotor K1
Alpine Upgrade Factory System with Rear Trunk Subwoofer
Speaker Configuration:
Front Dash: 2 x 3.5"
Front Side: 2 x 6.5"
Sound Bar: 4 (3.5" and 6.5")
Rear Cargo: 1 x 8" Subwoofer
Planned Upgrades:
Replace factory speakers with JBL 600C components (2 x 6.5" Speakers, 2 x 1.5" Tweeters, 2 x Crossovers). I'm unsure how to install the crossovers and where they should be connected.
Adapters will be used to fit the 1.5" Tweeters into the 3.5" front dash locations.
For the sound bar, I plan to use another set of JBL 600C, utilizing only the 6.5" speakers, complemented by JBL 328 3.5" speakers.
The subwoofer will be upgraded to a JBL Stage 82 Black High-Performance 8" Component Subwoofer.
Concerning the wiring, should I reconnect to the factory cables, or are new wires recommended, especially since I'm considering using a PAC AP4-CH21 AmpPRO4?
I'm uncertain about the amplifier requirements for this setup and whether a DSP is necessary.
My goal is to complete most of the installation myself as a learning experience, but I'm currently missing some pieces of the puzzle. Any advice on the components, installation process, or additional equipment needed would be incredibly helpful.
Thank you in advance for your time and assistance!
1) A dsp is only really necessary for a higher sound quality. Many high end amps have that built in and it makes a huge difference in the sound quality.
2) Based on your diagram, you have all speakers on a dedicated amp channel which negates the need for a crossover. All speakers on their own amp channel is called an active setup, no need for a crossover since each channel can be tuned.
3) If you’re replacing everything, don’t waste money on speakers in the sound bar. Rear speakers in a high end stereo are a waste. If you have an active 3-way front stage then you won’t even hear the rear speakers. Many competition stereo builds only have a front stage and a sub somewhere in the back.
4) You are planning what looks like a full build. I’d definitely invest in a couple layers of sound deadening since our jeeps are loud already. Look into a good headliner and apply sound deadening on the top before applying the headliner.
5) check out diyma.com and ask questions there. There’s tons of audio gurus there that have a lot of knowledge.
6) Do not reuse factory wiring. Run your own heavier gauge wires.
