Default factory infinity system with aftermarket headunit?

i was just talking to a crutchfield rep online, and apparently you cant use the OEM sub with an aftermarket headunit?

is this true? and if so, can an aftermarket sub fit in the OEM sub box in the back?

im sorry if these are newbish questions, i've never tried an aftermarket system that wasnt somethin cheap from walmart

*edit* ok so i found another topic that PARTIALLY covers this. sorry *edit*

yeah, not true. you're going to trust crutchfield over us? Also, I'm pretty sure at least one person has put another aftermarket sub into the factory enclosure. I'm pretty sure it can be done.

I installed an after market HU and haven't done anything with the speakers yet. My sub works as intended.

their explanation was that they dont know the output of the sub or something and therefore using it would cause distortion and possibly harm the unit

which didnt really make sense to me, but i dunno

I believe it is the amp that won't work with another head unit. The head unit and the amp communicate on the Can bus.You either have to replace the amp or drive the speakers and sub with the new head unit.

yeah im thinking that their system says that the amp wont work and therefore they assume that you have to set up something new for the speakers

As long as you get the right harness, you're all set. You have to have a harness if you want to utilize the factory infinity speakers.
