Default Factory Sound Systems

Hello,

I've been working on some various build scenarios on jeep.com and having some trouble understanding the different sound system packages offered. Could someone who's familiar with them please tell me in lay terms how these systems differ (specific question underneath each system) and if there's anything else I should be aware of with them. Thanks in advance.

AM/FM Stereo Radio w/In-Dash CD Player/MP3 Capability (included)
Does this system have true iPod control?
Does this system have Sirius Satellite Radio?

AM/FM Stereo Radio w/In-Dash 6-Disc DVD/MP3 Player ($350)
Does this system have true iPod control?
Does this system have Sirius Satellite Radio?
Does this system have a screen for watching a DVD? If not, how is DVD used? Does DVD video playback on-screen?
What states will the DVD work?

uconnect gps ($1,275)
Does this system have true iPod control?
Does this system have a screen for watching a DVD? If not, how is DVD used? Does DVD video playback on-screen?
What states will the DVD work?

368W 7-Speaker Infinity(R) Sound System Including Subwoofer
Is this not available on Rubicon? Reason I ask is this option strangely only shows up on X S package.

Also, what is a 'My Gig'? I've seen this mentioned here on the forum but it's not listed on the jeep.com build tool.

the first one is the base radio head unit.. it will play a CD, or an MP3 CD... (disc burned was a data disc with .mp3 files on it)...

the 6 disc unit has a DVD player in it and can play DVD video and audio discs, however the screen is not included.. you would have to install a back seat drop down screen... there are threads here with mods on how to connect up a screen...
it will also play a DVD-R or DVD-RW burned as a data disc with .mp3 files.. which means 4.7 gigs of music files.. you can scroll through the folders you put them in.. however no more than 255 files per folder and no more than 255 folders...

the U-connect GPS is what chrysler used to call my-gig.. same thing... there are versions with and without Nav.. although I believe wrangler carries only the NAV version of it... im thinking you have to Lockpick it for DVD to work on it as DVD is not legal in the front seat in most if not all states....

now as for Ipod control... the stock RES radio Without SIRIUS does not have the U-connect buttons built into it and would require a different U-Connect module and Ipod doc...

the single Disc RES radio with SIRIUS has the U-connect buttons built in and just requires the U-connect module and Ipod doc to function....

the 6 disc REQ radio has the U-connect buttons built in and requires just the U-connect module and Ipod cable for ipod to function....

there are numerous threads on the parts and how to install... the ipod integration / uconnect is not available as a factory option... but its easy to buy the modules, put them in, and have the dealer Starscan them into service.. this will give you bluetooth phone integration as well as true ipod integration(toss the ipod in the glove box and controll it from the radio controls)

the Ipod integration cable WILL NOT CHARGE iPhone or iTouch... however you can still play music from these devices... it WILL charge the other older nano's ipod classics etc..

there is also an FM modulated Ipod adapter module.. DONT GET THIS... it sounds like CRAP!

the "mygig"/ u-connect GPS is only available on rubicon and sahara but not X

the infinity 368W speaker system is not an option on sahara or rubicon because it is standard on these models

Wow! Thank you very much JeepaRoo (Christopher). That's exactly the type of info I needed. 100Xs more helphul than anything I've been able to get from the actual Jeep dealers. I asked these same questions in person and basically got blank stares. I despise worthless sales people who have no knowledge of the product their selling. Anyway, thanks again.

Few more questions if you don't mind:

What does 'RES', 'REQ', and 'Starscan' mean?

The uconnect is the only one with touch screen right? Basically a motorized face that has a DVD/CD slot behind it? Or does the 6-disc have a motorized touch screen too? I saw two single slot/non-motorized screen models in various Wranglers on the lot.

I found 'Lockpick' based on your message and that looks like it will do the trick for my wants/needs. Yay!

PS: Could have sworn I saw some Rubicons at the dealer that didn't have the subwoofer in the trunk though. Will have to go back and check that one.

RES and REQ are the chrysler sales codes for their radios.. the sales code is located on the lower right corner of the front panel of the radio right near the Aux input jack.

the U-connect means several things with chrysler..

you can add U-connect to the RES (single disc) radio with SIRIUS.. that radio will have the "phone buttons" on the top row of the radio.. this gives you bluetooth phone integration.. and then for an extra $40 you can buy the iPod cable for it..

the same goes for the REQ (6 disc).. the 6 disc is a DVD player but has a regular display just like the single disc.. it is not a "LCD panel" type of display.. you cant view videos on it.. you would have to connect a remote screen to the back of it and locate the screen elsewhere in your Jeep... the 6 disc has a standard single load slot for putting CD's/ DVD;s into it and you press a 'load' button and it will ask you to load your discs in.

on the lot there are several radios you might have seen.. the RES without SIRIUS has a different button configuration than the RES with SIRIUS... then there is the REQ (6 disc) which is still a single slot however its button configuration looks real similar to the RES with SIRIUS...

Starscan is the computer diagnostice and programming tool that the dealers use... when you install the U-connect module(to a single or 6 disc radio... ) you have to have them run starscan on it for it to work... the Jeep runs on a CAN-bus (high speed) network and starscan allows the network to see the devices....

the units with SIRIUS will have a button marked 'SAT' to the left of the display...

the U-connect GPS (MyGig) has the LCD panel display that opens when you press the "open/close" button and you can load a disc into it at that time.. it also has a Hard drive.. (30 gig for 2009) in which you get about 18 gigs of that space to load music into it internally..

I havent seen a rubicon on the lot without infinity sound but then the jeep dealer I go to tends to be in a more upscale area of town where he mainly sells high option vehicles... to find out.. go to a dealer inventory search and then pull down a window sticker for a rubicon.. make sure its the same wheelbase as what you are looking for (4 door and 2 door have different standard features).. and then see if the infinity sound is lised in the standard features or in the right hand column under options... I know its optional on the X models...

So, get the module, get computer flashed by dealer, and bingo, hands free, Blue tooth connectivity with your blue tooth phone? Caller ID on the radio, etc.

If so, off to find a module. Where to find...
