Default Failed Backup lights

Well today I noticed when my wife was backing out the Jeep out of a parking stall that the backup lights have failed to come on. Anyone know of how this could have happened? I do not have time right now to fix it because it is being shipped to Oakland from Hawaii tomorrow. My wife will be the taking it in because I will be on the USS Nimitz and will not be home until next year. So any input would be great?

She most likely did not engage reverse all the way.

there is a switch that turns on the lights when you put your shifter in reverse (i dont know were it is) but i would see if you have power going out.

I have this same problem, and it seems like it's getting worse with age. I'm pretty sure that it's a problem with the tranny telling the lights to turn on. anyone out there have any other incites on where the switch is... how to fix exct. of course my initial warranty has run out now. I'm not sure that this is covered by the lifetime powertrain.

I'm having the same problem now. It definitely isn't the bulbs because they'll eventually come on after 15-30 seconds, or if I throw it into reverse with some force. I'm certain it's a faulty switch, but I'm not sure exactly where it is. Anyone know?
