or are you trying to take the socket off
I'm not sure that you can.
you might have to cut the wires

Do you want to change the bulb or remove the whole unit from the vehicle? You'd have to cut the wires if you want to remove the whole thing... there's no plug to pull out or re-insert.

thanks, but not quite what i was looking for, i got the light unplugged from the fender so it is hanging. but the directions say to "3. Disconnect the ends of the jumper wire harness (3) from the front side marker/repeater lamp bulb socket and from the engine wire harness." and i can not find the release button.

You may be right, but not true with Bushwackers... my instructions are to cut the wires and splice them to the supplied new LED markers.

I unplugged mine last night. I couldn't find the tab either. I just stuck a flat head screwdriver in there, pushed in then pulled out. (Save the TWSS.) I couldn't get my light covers off of the stock flares, so I just pulled the entire set of wires until I get new covers. They should slide off of the mount by pulling down on them. Do this before using the screwdriver.

Hope this makes as much sense here as it did in my head.
